BLACKFOX IN THE FIELD
Our inspectors are on-site across Alberta every week — from mobile cranes on active job sites to lifting equipment in the yard. Here's a look at the work we do in the field.

CODES WE FOLLOW
Generic reference to Occupational Health & Safety legislation (provincial, e.g. Ontario Reg. 213/91) — not a single CSA/ASME standard, but the regulatory umbrella requiring equipment inspection, maintenance records, and safe operation
Applies to: All workplaces; often the legal trigger that invokes the CSA/ASME standards below
Safety code on mobile cranes
Applies to: Covers the design, construction, load rating, installation, erection, inspection, maintenance, repair, modification, test, and operation of crawler-mounted, truck-mounted, boom truck, wheel-carrier, and rail-mounted lattice/telescopic boom mobile cranes. It's a National Standard of Canada
Self-propelled elevating work platforms (scissor lifts etc.)
Applies to: Criteria for design, manufacture, remanufacture, rebuild, testing, performance, inspection, training, maintenance, and safe operation of self-propelled elevating work platforms, for use on paved/slab or off-slab surfaces
Self-propelled boom-supported elevating work platforms (boom lifts)
Applies to: Same family as B354.2 but specifically boom-type platforms; excluded from B354.2's scope and covered separately
Welded steel construction (structural welding)
Applies to: Applies to welding of base metals 3 mm (1/8 in) and thicker, using SMAW, SAW, GMAW, FCAW, MCAW and related processes — Canada's counterpart to AWS D1.1
Industrial trucks / forklifts
Applies to: Establishes safety requirements for design, operation, and maintenance, plus standardized dimensions, test methods and procedures for powered and nonpowered industrial trucks (excludes earth-moving/over-the-road vehicles)
Below-the-Hook Lifting Devices
Applies to: Covers marking, construction, installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and operation of below-the-hook lifting devices used for attaching loads to a hoist (lifting beams, clamps, magnets, etc.)
Vehicle-mounted aerial devices (bucket trucks)
Applies to: Establishes criteria for design, manufacture, testing, inspection, installation, maintenance, use, and operation of vehicle-mounted aerial devices installed on a chassis, primarily used to position personnel — Canadian National Standard
Overhead cranes, gantry cranes, monorails, hoists and hooks
Applies to: The Canadian standard for overhead cranes, gantry cranes, monorails, hoists, and hooks — Canada's equivalent to the ASME B30 crane series
